1927, May 14 – Norman Building Fire off of N. Market

Fire which threatened the destruction of the Norman building in the rear of the Family Theatre Friday night was blocked by firemen who braved the intense smoke and climbed through a sky light to fight the blaze in the attic of the building. The building owned by J.M. and A.T. Norman of the Heyde Hardware Co. housed the W.T. Courtney Transfer Co. and a store room and candy shop of the Marion Candy Kitchen. The lodge hall was not damaged by the fire, smoke or water, and the damage done to the contents of the other rooms was negligible. Damage done to the building itself is expected to run between $200 and $300.
