1946, G.J. Frick Buys County Poor Farm

Marion Funeral Director is High Bidder with Price of $8800

G.J. Frick, Marion funeral director, Wednesday was the owner of the Williamson County poor farm.

The former Williamson county sheriff purchased the 71.53 acre tract at public auction Tuesday afternoon for a bid of $8,800.

The 34.29 acres on the east side of Route 37 north of Marion brought $5,450 and the west 37.24 acres sold for $3,350. The bidding on the east tract which is the site of the three buildings formerly used as a home for Williamson county’s indigent was more spirited than the competition for the purchase of the went acreage.

Members of the county board who were prompted to sell the farm because of present high real estate values and because the farm buildings were being damaged, were well pleased with the price the farm brought. In recent months much of the equipment in the building had been stolen. Plumbing and lighting fixtures and even window sashes and door facings had been carried away.
