1954, Story of Marion to be Filmed

To Film “Story of Marion” Soon

Production Firm From Texas To Make Feature Film in Marion

Erman Alred, manager of the Orpheum Theater, announced that he has made arrangements with Mel Barker, motion picture director and producer, to produce, “The Marion Story”, a 30 minute film depicting the history and assets of Marion.

The story will begin with the old history and build up to the present. Including in the film will be the civic, business and professional clubs, also the city officials, fire department, parks, leading industrial and business firms, churches and school system.

In fact Mr. Barker says that nearly everything about the old and new history will be filmed. The Production Crew will move in this week and start filming at once. Besides the Director there will be Sandy Sanderson, camera man, Hub Green, advance contact man, and others.

The first filming will probably be the civic clubs such as the Rotary, Lions, Optimist and Kiwanis Clubs. Any business or professional clubs wishing to be included as part of the Marion Story, should call D.D. Wright, Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce.

After the film is completed it will have its premier showing at the Orpheum Theater, says Mr. Alred. A 16mm print will be presented to the Chamber of Commerce to be used for showing at conventions or other meetings to show the civic and progressive spirit of the people of Marion to build a better and finer town to live in and to invite industries and other people to make it their home. It is believed that as many as 3,000 local people will be in this picture.

Sams’ Notes: I am going to pursue locating a copy of this, if anyone knows of its existence please let me know.
