Start Work on Catholic Church

Father Joseph A. Tragesser of West Frankfort, who is overseeing the work of building a Catholic chapel in Marion, announced that actual construction work started on Wednesday when the first ground was broken.

The chapel, which will be of frame construction 32 by 72 feet and costing nearly $5,000 will be built at once and it is hoped to have it ready for occupancy before snow flies.

There are forty Catholic families in Marion and these are contributing funds and labor for their church home.

Father Tragresser says that he has had splendid cooperation and response from local business firms.

Sam’s Notes: St. Joseph’s Catholic Church was originally located at 908 W. Boulevard on the corner of N. Vicksburg St. The home still located on that lot was the parsonage for the priest and the day care at the rear of the lot was the original Knights of Columbus hall.
