Veteran Clothier Announces Sale Preparatory to Retiring from Business in Marion

A.H. Joseph is today announcing a sale which will start on Saturday and which is for the purpose of closing out his stock of clothing preparatory to retiring from business. Mr. Joseph came to this city from St. Louis twenty six years ago and opened up his store in the Warder block on the east side of the public square as soon as that building was completed. He received his stock before the building was ready and for a couple of months conducted his business in another location bur for more than a quarter of a century has been in business at the head of East Main Street. 1941, Illinois Ordnance Plant Property Acquisitions

Ordnance property AcquisitionsCrab Orchard Lake was formed by bottling up Crab Orchard Creek and 22,000 acres were purchased by the U.S. Government starting in 1936 as part of a W.P.A. project. As the new lake was filling up with water in 1940, it had already been decided to establish a military reservation in the form of the Illinois Ordnance Plant or Ordill. Many of the properties were purchased in 1940 and 1941.

Bradley, Robert D. 1924-2013, The Insurance House

Bob Bradley 1924-2013Robert Donald Bradley was born August 4, 1924, in Effingham, Illinois, to Esther and Arnold Bradley. While in school, he took the last name of his stepfather, Earl Burnett, and used his own middle name Donald and was known as Don Burnett.

After his high school graduation, he joined the US Navy and served on the tanker ship US Platt in the South Pacific until World War II ended. Continue reading
