James Henderson Clarida, grandfather of Bill Butler and  Mayor Robert Butler, was born March 30, 1876 at Crab Orchard, the son of William J. Clarida and Irena Culbreth. He grew up on a farm and attended school at Pleasant Grove.

In the 1880 census, James H. was 4 years old and sharing space with a sister, Ida J. Clarida, age 6, in the home of his parents on their farm in Crab Orchard Precinct of Williamson County. Continue reading

Bandy, Wallace A. 1880-1941, State Legislator

Wallace Bandy 1880-1941Wallace Albert Bandy was born on July 19, 1880, in Sandy Hook, Elliot County, Kentucky to William H. Bandy and Sarah Howard (see Sam’s Notes).

He received his education in the public schools and the high school at Sandy Hook, and later took a special course in law and attended one term in military training school.

He enlisted on July 21, 1898, into the U.S. Army, Company H of the 4th Kentucky Infantry during the Spanish American war, serving in the Philippines and HawaiiHe was discharged from the regiment on February 12, 1899 as a private. Continue reading

George Washington Pillow began life at Metropolis, Massac Co., Illinois, May 15, 1850. He was the son of Capt. Parker B. Pillow, of Columbia, Tenn. who died in March, 1883, at Shawneetown, to which place he moved in 1852. The mother was Elizabeth Braisier a native of this state and lived at Shawneetown. Fozard, Joseph 1853-1914

Fozard JosephJoseph Fozard was a native of Yorkshire, England, born at Batley January 15, 1853, to Martin Fozard and Sarah Mortimer. His father was a woolen manufacturer in England, and went to work at the same business on coming to this country, about 1859. He settled in New Jersey about the beginning of the Civil War and brought up his son to the same trade. Continue reading
