James W Sanders 1923-1990Marion has had its share of heroes over the years. The subject of this work is World War II and how one of our local citizens answered the call.

We had a family here in Marion that sent four of its sons to the service and only one survived. In Williamson County we had two sons from Paulton that died in prisoner of war camps. We have other families that sent four and five of their sons to the effort. The first casualty of the war from Marion was a man who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan and he is still entombed in the Battleship Arizona. Continue reading

Norman, Ralph 1884-1963

Norman Ralph 1884-1963Ralph Norman was born January 28, 1884, in Crab Orchard, Illinois. He served on the school board in Marion for 40 years and was a former city commissioner.

Norman was the son of the late Leroy Norman and Clementine Hastings. He was married in Marion December 2, 1905, to Sarah T. Jordan which appears to be about the time he and his wife started living in Marion. Continue reading

“J. C. Jackson was born June 20, 1842, and was raised on a farm in Sumner County, Tennessee. He came to Marion when eighteen years old, where he still resides. Until 1878 he followed the trade of carpenter and builder, when he took a hand in politics and served as Deputy Sheriff until 1882. Continue reading
