1941, March 4 – Many Businesses Destroyed in Goodall Hotel Blaze

1936, October 5 – Brick Pavement of Square Being Removed

Early Monday morning workmen for the Concord Construction Co. of E. St. Louis began taking up the brick of the pavement on the public square to make way for the new concrete pavement which is to be laid on the four corners of the square and about the court house. Continue reading →

1934, December 24 – Major Fire Damages South Side of Square

Fire which broke out in the Simonton store in the Cox building at 7:50 am Monday did damage to the Simonton Store and other stores and offices in the same block before valiant work by three fire departments brought it under control and hour later. Continue reading →

To improve search results when more than two words are used in the search box, enclosing them in quotes will return only the exact phrase. i.e. "Tom Jones"

Names were often spelled differently back in time due to illiteracy and transcription errors. Consider all possible spellings of a last name. For instance, Maynard could also be Manard, Menard, Maynerd or Mainard.

Also, try leaving trailing letters off of names that have variations and keep the letters that tend to stay the same.
