Before Rose Hill Cemetery came into existence, Marion, Illinois citizens were buried at the old Marion Cemetery, aka Aikman Cemetery. When the city started growing and more space was required Rose Hill was established in 1884 and some of the graves were moved from the old cemetery. Continue reading →

Samuel Aikman, his wife  Henrietta and a family of six boys and three girls came to Marion, Illinois in 1837 and settled on the west side of Marion, Illinois before the town was platted or built, while this county was still a part of Franklin County. Continue reading →

Names were often spelled differently back in time due to illiteracy and transcription errors. Consider all possible spellings of a last name. For instance, Maynard could also be Manard, Menard, Maynerd or Mainard.
