1938, April 5 – Police and Fire Go Without Pay

Marion policemen and firemen encountered another payless payday Monday night when Finance Commissioner E.R. Jones reported to the city council that the state of the city’s finances would not permit transfer of funds to make a payment on back salaries in the police and fire departments. Continue reading →

Names were often spelled differently back in time due to illiteracy and transcription errors. Consider all possible spellings of a last name. For instance, Maynard could also be Manard, Menard, Maynerd or Mainard.

Also, try leaving trailing letters off of names that have variations and keep the letters that tend to stay the same.
