Senior Citizen’s Will Give Up Meeting Place

Today there are twelve unhappy “old men” for the Old Men’s Club, located at 104 East Main Street, was forced to close its doors and these men are now without a meeting place. The irony of the situation is that construction has just started on the Greenburg building on the east corner of the square, and the Old Men’s Club had a choice location for the “sidewalk” engineers to sit and watch the work progress. Old Settlers Meet in 1880

The old settlers met in Marion on Saturday, July 10, 1880 at 2 o’clock p.m. and organized a second time by appointing Dr. Bundy chairman and Dr. Lodge secretary. On motion of Rev. A.T. Benson and seconded by R.T. Pulley, it was resolved “That all persons a resident of Williamson County prior to 1860 and fifty years of age or older, be invited to meet each other at the Fair Grounds near Marion on Thursday, August 12, 1880 and have an old fashioned barbeque and talk over old times.” Continue reading
