This old country school once sat outside of Marion, Illinois at the turn of the century. Its location is shown on a 1908 Williamson County Plat map. When the government began talking of buying the surrounding property up for a new VA hospital, Oldham Paisley had the foresight to grab this picture. Continue reading →

I found this for sale on Ebay and couldn’t resist posting it. Henry Scott Harris was Sherriff of Williamson County from 1902 to 1906 when the Coal Belt Railway was just getting cranked up.

Earl Blankenship, Sr. was born March 28, 1894 in Marion, Illinois, the only son of Elijah and Cora (Chamness) Blankenship. He was raised on a farm with his sister, Nell, on West Main Street, the current site of the Veterans Administration Hospital. Continue reading →
