Theodore Aikman has returned from Texas. He took sick as soon as he arrived. MM 10 Jan 1884

James H. Robinson, 35, died Tuesday of pneumonia at his residence 4 miles east. He was ill one week. He leaves a wife and 4 small children. Burial was in the old Marion Cemetery. MM 17 Jan 1884

Elvira Wilburn of Northern, was charged with murdering her own child. After giving birth, she broke its skull and threw it in a well. She is about 17 years old. Her mother is living and her father is dead. MM 3 May 1883

Mr. and Mrs. James Thompson of Carterville lost a son aged about 6 years. EP3Mav 1883 MM says Little Jimmie Thompson was buried in Murphysboro.

Levi C. Simmons died at his residence here on Jan 1 of pneumonia, aged 67 years 9 months 21 days. He was born in Tennessee and lived in Williamson County since 1864. He left a wife and several children. Burial was in Barham Cemetery. EP4 Jan 1883

The grand jury indicted Marion Hindman, Elias Hindman, John H.Q. Davis and D. A. Connell all of Carbondale for the murder of Cal Hopper last August. MM 4 Jan 1883

Deaths – Wesley Council committed suicide by drinking 2 ounces of laudanum last Sunday night at 7:30. He died in about one hour. He purchased it at the drug store and an empty vial was found in his saloon. When he went home a short time after purchasing it, he told his little boy to take care of his pocketbook as he was going to die. He was 42 years old and leaves a wife – his second one to whom he had been married 7 or 8 weeks -and 3 children. EP 1 Jun 1882
