Western Exchange Hotel, First Hotel in Marion, Illinois

In 1842 the first hotel, a two story brick building that extended 40 feet along the north side of the square, called the Western Exchange Hotel, was built by Allen Bainbridge, who also had a tobacco factory and warehouse on the northwest corner of the square. Continue reading →

Bone Davis Saloon, Marion, Illinois’ First Business House

To improve search results when more than two words are used in the search box, enclosing them in quotes will return only the exact phrase. i.e. "Tom Jones"

Names were often spelled differently back in time due to illiteracy and transcription errors. Consider all possible spellings of a last name. For instance, Maynard could also be Manard, Menard, Maynerd or Mainard.

Also, try leaving trailing letters off of names that have variations and keep the letters that tend to stay the same.
