Bundy Becomes Unit Assistant Superintendent

Marion Community Unit 2 School Board Wednesday night named A.C. (Cliff) Storme as Marion High School principal to succeed William H. Bundy, whom the board appointed as assistant unit superintendent. The changes are effective July 1.

Storme has been a social studies teacher at MHS. Bundy will be working with Supt. Orland Stanley.

Virgil Wilson will remain assistant principal and athletic director.

The board also hired two teachers.

Bundy will be filling a vacancy created when Robert McKinney took a new position three years ago. Stanley, then assistant superintendent, succeeded McKinney.

Has Master’s Degree

Storme, 43, 509 South Vicksburg, also city recreational director, received a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University, where he studied from 1937 thru 1941. He was awarded a master’s degree from the University of Illinois.

Storme served in the Army from 1943 to 1946.

He was a coach at Pittsburg High School 1941-42, teacher and a coach at Ridgway High 1942-43 and coach at Marion 1946-54.

Bundy, 56, 600 South Carbon, was a second class petty officer in the navy. He taught in the Navy Hospital, and Corps School at Great Lakes and San Diego.

Bundy attended Marion High, Southern Illinois University, and University of Illinois, where he received his master’s degree.

Employed 30 years

He has been with the Marion school system and Unit 2 for 30 years.

He began teaching biology in 1933 and taught that subject until he became principal in 1952. He was assistant principal from 1946 to 1952. Bundy spent two years in the navy from 1944 to 1946.

Bundy was football coach from 1939 to 1941.

Amounts of their salaries have not been reported, but one official said each would receive about $9,000 a year.

Gary Nolen Hired

Gary D. Nolen, son of Troy Nolen, Marion, was hired to teach social studies at the high school. Nolen, who has a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University In social studies, has three years teaching experience at Crab Orchard.

Mrs. Lubon Ingram was employed to teach 7th grade vocal music and two classes in social studies. Mrs. Ingram’s husband, a hand and foot surgeon, is a native of Kentucky. She has taught school in Kentucky.

John Gertis resigned his math position. He was a first year teacher. The board accepted the resignation.

A vacancy in social studies is yet to be filled by the promotion of Storme. Nolen was added because of the increased enrollment, Stanley said.

Philip A. Eigenmann, high school band director, takes over the junior high school band due to the death of Herbert Ashley.

Mrs. Guy Peterson will teach vocal music one-half day in high school and the other half in grade school.
