1924, October 1 – Fire at N. Market Business

1924, September 22 – Warehouse on N. Van Buren Burns to the Ground

A warehouse between the Illinois Central and Iron Mountain tracks on N. Van Buren St. was burned to the ground in a very spectacular fire on Sat. night. The building and contents, which are a total loss, belonged to the Bracy Supply Co. Continue reading →

1924, September 16 – Store on S. Court Damaged by Fire

A small store owned by Arthur Stanley, 511 S. Court St. was visited by a small blaze about 10 o’clock Sunday evening that caused a heavy loss due to smoke and water. The origin of the fire is not known but it is thought that to have caught from a box of matches in a cigar case that may have been ignited by mice.

1924, August 11 – Home Oil Co. Partially Destroyed by Fire

Home Oil Co. Service Station at corner of W. Main & Court Street partially destroyed by fire Saturday evening. All the glass windows were destroyed. Approximate damage $450.

To improve search results when more than two words are used in the search box, enclosing them in quotes will return only the exact phrase. i.e. "Tom Jones"

Names were often spelled differently back in time due to illiteracy and transcription errors. Consider all possible spellings of a last name. For instance, Maynard could also be Manard, Menard, Maynerd or Mainard.

Also, try leaving trailing letters off of names that have variations and keep the letters that tend to stay the same.
