Frederic Applegath died Saturday at his home in Herrin. He was born 18 Sep 1843 in Edwards County of an old English descended family. He moved from a farm near Carbondale to Herrin when this city was a struggling mining village. He was an early Herrin merchant and later went into the real estate business. About two years ago he slipped and fell on the icy sidewalk near his home and suffered a broken hip which kept him bedfast for over a year and left him a cripple. Survived by his wife and children: Joe Applegath of Indiana, Irvin Applegath of this city and Mrs. Arthur Wiswell of Carterville. Burial in City Cemetery. [A lengthy obit.] HN 1 Jan

Miss Mary G. Dawkins, 55, died 2 April at her home, 807 North Court following an illness of auto-intoxication. She was a native of Wales but had lived in this country the past 30 years and for the past 15 years has resided in Marion. They came to America with her mother and for many years she devoted her life to caring for her mother who died 6 years ago. She is survived by three brothers: William of Marion, with whom she made her home; Thomas of Staunton and Richard who lives in the west. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery. MDR Wednesday, 2 Apr

Malinda May Wells died Tuesday at the home of her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Horatio Wells, 602 North Vicksburg. She had been sick from tuberculosis since last April. She was born 17 Aug 1883 in Pope County. Survived by parents, two sisters: Mrs. John Sperling and Myrtle Wells both of this city. A brother, Charles, died eight years ago.
