Word was received late Monday afternoon that Charles B. Garrigos, chief commissary steward with the U.S. Navy, died of pneumonia at the naval hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. His wife is the former Allene Fowler and she, with her two children, Charles Bafford Jr. and Hope, have been at the home of her father, R.R. Fowler. Mr. Garrigos was born 26 years ago near Carterville and was married 5 Aug 1913. Funeral at Benton with burial in Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery there.   MDR Tuesday, 1 Oct & 4 Oct 1918

Nellie Woodside, wife of Eugene Woodside, died Sunday at Emma Jones Hospital of a hemorrhage following an operation. She was born 19 Oct 1884 near Galatia, daughter of John D. Watkins, native of Galatia and Mary Cripps, who was reared in this city. She married 6 Jan 1906 and was the mother of four children: Pauline, Eugene, Morris & Hal. Also surviving are sisters: Mrs. R.C. Hill of Marion, Mrs. Joe Bond of Herrin & Mrs. Lee Dalton of Galatia. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. MDR Monday, 1 Jul 1918

Mrs. Theo Hudson, 58, wife of Dr. Theo Hudson, died Wednesday at her country home near Hudgens after suffering with paralysis the past year. She leaves her husband, daughter Mrs. Matt Lainson who resided with her mother and son John Hudson in the U.S. Navy and stepson Dr. Zach Hudson of this city. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery. Matilda Murphy, wife of Jas. Murphy was taken to the state hospital at Anna. She had been a patient there earlier but was discharged. MDR Monday, 1 Oct 1917

A life sentence was given “Batt Eye” Calvin and Guy Green Monday for the murder of David Daniels. Welby Goodpastor Zachory will be sentenced later. MDR 1 Oct 1917
