Margaret Vidmar, infant daughter of Joe Vidmar of Johnston City died at midnight Friday in the arms of Mrs. Ellen Haywood. The child was 2 years and 3 months old and had been ill with measles. MDR Monday, 2 Jul 1917

Funeral services for J.W. Westbrook, former mayor and banker of this city, who died of erysipelas of the face at Spokane, Wash., will be held Sunday with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Charles Mitchell, only sister of the deceased, is accompanying the body from Spokane. He was born 8 Nov 1885. MDR 31 Mar & 2 Apr 1917

Arthur McRoy, living near Scranton, shot and killed Charles (Calico) Cameron Sunday morning. There were no witnesses although Mrs. McRoy was in the adjoining room. The men had been gambling Saturday night and McRoy won. The next morning, Cameron came to McRoy’s home and wanted to gamble some more. He snatched McRoy’s purse and started to run and McRoy shot him in the head with a shotgun. Both men worked at Scranton mine. Cameron, 36, is the son of Sexton John Cameron. McRoy has a wife and five children. MDR Monday, 1 Jan 1917

Anna Kilbreth, wife of John M. Kilbreth of Grassy Precinct, died Friday of cancer. She was born 17 Apr 1861 in this county, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Eli Lentz. Four brothers and two sisters survive: Prof. E.G. Lentz of Carbondale (S.I.N.U.), Robert Lentz of Enid, Okla., Marshall Lentz of Valpariso, Ind., I.N. Lentz of Wolf Creek, Mrs. S.M. Fowler of Herrin and Mrs. Elizabeth Throgmorton of Bardwell, Ky. One sister, Mrs. L.L. Gallimore preceded her to the grave. She is also survived by six children, two of whom are at home: Mrs. Ray Miller, wife of Deputy County Clerk, Mrs. Ralph Jones of Herrin, Allen Kilbreth of Clifford, James Kilbreth of Fordville and Joe Kilbreth at home. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. MDR Saturday, 1 Jul & HN 6 Jul 1916
